Deb Haaland is the first Native American Indian to hold position in any President of the U.S.’ cabinet, ever. She is the First Native American Secretary of the Interior.
Deb Haaland is one of two Native American Indian women elected in 2018, to serve as representatives to Congress. She represents the state of New Mexico.
There is a Native American Indian proverb: “In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.”—not our present generation, nor our children, nor our grandchildren, nor our great grandchildren, nor the grandchildren of our grandchildren, but the next seven generations of our children who will be born. Seven generations = 140 years.
Seventh generations is a business which sells eco-friendly cleaning products like laundry detergent, dish washing liquid, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning wipes, anti bacterial soap, antibacterial hand sanitizer and etc. to people. It takes its name from the Great Law of the Haudenosaunee, the founding document of the Iroquois Confederacy, the oldest participatory Democracy on Earth. It is based on an ancient Iroquois Native American Indian philosophy that reveres Nature—the Earth,—the Environment. Ms. Haaland is a Laguna Pueblo Native American Indian, but throughout her political life she has shown that she believes she has a duty protect the earth and pass it on to future generations of children too (Haaland, .44 - 3:18).”
Moreover, Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has said that Haaland brings a commitment to climate and justice in the Secretary of Interior “position, and the historic weight of having a Native woman, no less a progressive one, in charge of federal lands is enormous (Cabral, para. 11). “Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi described Ms. Haaland as one of the most respected members of Congress (Cabral, para. 9).
In all, Ms. Haaland “would oversee 5 million acres of federal lands, 62 national parks, and work with 1.9 million indigenous Americans, from 574 federally recognized tribes. The Interior Secretary also manages the Bureau of Trust Funds Administration, which handles Native American finances and the Bureau of Indian Education (Ibid. ,para. 12).”
